2011 Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon/Half Marathon/5k race is Sunday October 16th

This year all 6 of my grandchildren will join me in lacing up our sneakers to take part in this fun and worthwhile event. As much as I'll enjoy the walk itself, the real reason I look forward to it is the opportunity to raise support for an organization that I'm passionate about -- Matthew House .

We all know that many people are feeling the impact of these uncertain economic times in very real ways.  However, the unfortunate reality is that the needy in our community suffer the most when the going gets rough, and organizations like Matthew House need support now more than ever.  Difficult times provide a great opportunity to encourage others, to dig deep to show your support for the marginalized in our midst!

Matthew House is a shelter in downtown Toronto that welcomes newly arrived refugees to Canada and provides support and settlement assistance that they need to get on their feet in a new and unfamiliar place.  As a board member of several years I feel it is an honour, to be participating in the run once again, to help raise support this year as we continue offering much needed services to refugees in a challenging economic environment.

Matthew House is no stranger to exciting times and big challenges. As a charitable organization, we rely on the generosity of people like you to propel our mission and purpose (we receive no direct government funding), we continue to need strong support as we grow.  The Toronto Waterfront Marathon/5k is a great way to offer your support to Matthew House, you get the satisfaction of knowing I'll be waking up super early on September 26th to walk! A timely reminder for Uxbridge residents about your property taxes for the 2011 year Your final payment is due Sept 30th unless you are using the automatic monthly payment method.

• Gerogina's are due on the Sept 28
• Scugog's are due on Sept 27th
• Whitchurch Stouffville's were due Sept 23rd

Some time early next week the Colours in Muskoka and Algonquin Park will reach their peak.

The Algonquin Park Fall Foilage Colour Report indicates that the colours are currently near their peak and will reach the peak early next. The report also provides information on the best places to view the many coloured coat of fall leaves. A Map of the 56 K highway 60 Corridor provides details on all the popular spots along the route.

This Exhibit by a group of seven local students between the ages of 12 and 21 is the result of a  photography workshop and mentoring project to help young people examine their world by merging two perspectives the old and the new while learning more about photography.

Prices Continue To Rise ..... but more slowly

The average selling price for August 2011 was $316,938 which shows a 1.5% increase from August 2010. The year to date average selling price is $317,306, a 4.4% increase over 2011.

The increase of 5.5% in new listings over last month would have played a part in the lower increase in home prices this month over last months 11.2% year over year increase for the month.

Total sales for the year to date are down 2% from last year with 6,988 sales to date for 2011
